Licensing Manager Clarence Greeno made the news in Wichita,
Kansas last night. In a story broadcast on KWCH-TV, reporter Cliff Judy talked
with Clarence regarding the link between crime and gambling.
Casino gaming is a hot topic in Wichita this week, and next, as an August 7th
ballot approaches in Sedgwick County.
Casino opponents are trying to establish a link between casinos and crime; a
link which Clarence says was brought up the 1990’s in Missouri before the onset
of riverboat gaming.
Clarence said “people thought there was going to be a
significant increase in crime caused by casinos, but the fact is, that has not
been realized.”
KWCH Eyewitness News also spoke with the Sedgwick County
Sheriff’s office, regarding the Wichita Greyhound Park, and Kay County, Oklahoma
officials, regarding the four casinos near the Kansas and Oklahoma border. No
one reported significant increases in crime.
