St. Louis County moves closer to smoking ban
10:15 PM CDT on Tuesday, August 4, 2009
(KMOV) — St. Louis County
could soon ban smoking inside buildings, but it would not affect as
many business as originally thought. The county council conducted a
preliminary vote Tuesday.
Under St. Louis County’s plan,
casinos and establishments that make 75% of their profits off alcohol
would not have to ban smoking.
Still, tonight’s
preliminary vote does not guarantee the smoking ban will be on the
November ballot. The council would have to do a final vote – likely on
August 18 – to decide to put the issue on the ballot.
There is one more important note to remember if the ban makes the
ballot in November and passes. If the city of St. Louis or the state
of Missouri were to ever pass an all-inclusive ban on smoking, smoking
would no longer be allowed at any bar in St. Louis County.
