New Commissioner

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) — Gov. Jay Nixon has
appointed former state lawmaker James Mathewson to a seat on the
Missouri Gaming Commission.

Mathewson would
serve until 2012 on the commission that regulates gambling. The
71-year-old Democrat from Sedalia spent 24 years in the Missouri
Senate, including seven as the chamber's president pro tem.

Yesterday,
Nixon also made appointments to the state Board of Education, the
Tourism Commission and the Missouri Housing Development Commission.

The
governor also appointed new members to the governing boards of four
state universities: Harris-Stowe, Missouri Western, Southeast Missouri
and Central Missouri.

All of the appointments need Senate confirmation.
